News in Glastonbury

Over 7,000 Somerset residents and organisations took part in a 19-week library service redesign consultation, Somerset County Council's Scrutiny Committee heard today.

Survey respondents were asked to review a set of proposals for the library they visit most often and consider the impacts the proposals will have on them, their family and their communities. They were also asked for alternative ideas on delivering library services going forward.

Location: Godney Road, Glastonbury

Fire appliances from Glastonbury and Street were mobilised to a report of a caravan on fire on Godney Road in Glastonbury.
On their approach they could see a large amount of smoke in the distance and upon arrival they confirmed a static caravan well alight.
Due to the proximity of the fire to an open field of dry standing crops, they requested a wildfire pump to attend to assist in extinguishing the fire.  This came from Wells.
Crews used a main attach jet with water from an open source and drag forks as well as compressed air foam which provided a preventable barrier to stop fire spread to the adjacent field.
The cause of the fire was accidental which resulted in the caravan being completely destroyed along with 10 square metres of grassland.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of public stating that the door of a property was on fire at the above location.

On arrival crews confirmed that there had been a fire in the doorway of this derelict property that was out on arrival of the Fire Service.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a report from a member of public stating that there was a small fire within a wood at the above location.

On arrival crews confirmed that this was a fire involving a disused barn measuring approx. 20m x 8m. Further resources were sent from Glastonbury and Street.

One of the roads into Baltonsborough remains closed for essential repairs to the Mill Bridge (known locally as Nogger's Bridge)

However, once work began it became clear that the deck of the bridge needed to be redesigned to prevent premature cracking and ensure it will meet its 120 year design life.
