A former Papa John's in Glastonbury has been shut down and boarded up after police enforced a High Court eviction order.

The squat at 17 Market Place was cleared on Wednesday, 30 October 2025, following months of complaints from residents and traders about anti-social behaviour, noise and intimidation.

Avon and Somerset Police worked with the property owners to secure the building and prevent re-entry.

Somerton and Frome MP Sarah Dyke welcomed the eviction, saying: "I was pleased to receive confirmation today that the High Court eviction order for 17 Market Place in Glastonbury has been served, and the property has now been secured and boarded up to prevent further misuse."

She added: "Avon and Somerset Police have done a sterling job, progressing the eviction order as quickly as possible – in close collaboration with the property owners – ensuring due process was followed and enforcing possession of the building today."

Dyke said the action followed months of pressure on the Government over anti-social behaviour in Glastonbury.

She said: "Glastonbury residents must feel safe in their town centre, and I am committed to continuing to work with all stakeholders and services to take a joined-up, multi-agency approach to tackling the root causes of anti-social behaviour – as well as ensuring police have the powers they need to enforce."

She is also pushing Somerset Council to bring in a Public Space Protection Order.

The building remains boarded up while the owners and local agencies discuss its future use.
