A former motocross track near Walton is being turned into a fishing lake and camping site after Somerset Council gave the plan the go-ahead.
Developer S Alway will transform the five-acre field off Walton High Road into a 1.43-hectare angling lake, complete with ten fishing swims, tent pitches and a timber-clad lodge. The decision clears the way for the site to swap dirt bikes for rods, reels and riverside camping.
Planning permission (ref. 2023/1137/FUL) was granted following a full application drawn up by Wells-based Salmon Planning Company.
The development will feature a single-storey facilities building measuring 66 square metres, 18 gravel parking bays, and new access safety works along Berhill Lane. The lake will take up around three-quarters of the site, with one swim designed for wheelchair access. Campers will be allowed to pitch tents overnight, but no permanent accommodation is planned.
A motocross track currently on the land will be removed, with the developer planting 60 native trees and sealing off a secondary entrance to reduce visual and traffic impact.
