A Glastonbury artist is turning blank walls into jaw-dropping murals — with everything from elephants to dahlias bursting into life on homes across town.

Jon Minshull, 61, has painted almost 30 giant outdoor artworks in Glastonbury and Meare — and says he does it "to bring happiness to people".

His latest piece, outside the home of Muriel Baker in Meare, features a blooming country garden — packed with painted trees, roses and butterflies.

"I just wanted a space that felt alive," said Muriel. "Now I look outside and it's like walking into a meadow."

Jon said: "I sketch something rough with the client, then just get going. Some take a week, some longer. It depends how wild they want to go."

The murals, which also include a life-sized giraffe, fantasy landscapes and a high street floral tribute, have earned him a following across Somerset.

One fan wrote: "Oh my goodness. That truly is incredible — absolutely mind blowing."

Another said: "So very beautiful. You are so talented — I can't draw a stick man properly!"

But Jon's most personal piece is the dahlia mural on Glastonbury High Street, painted in memory of his sister who died in 2023.

"She used to bring me dahlias from her garden," he said. "So when the gallery asked for flowers, I painted them for her. It's joyful — and it keeps her close."

Jon started in 2007 at St Ben's Junior School and was later commissioned for the Glastonbury Experience Courtyard. He's since painted churches, shops and garages — and says the town is the perfect canvas.

"Glastonbury's artistic, spiritual, colourful — it's made for this kind of work," he said. "And I get to do what I love, right here in my home town."
