A van that sparked repeated complaints in Glastonbury's St John's Car Park has finally been removed after months of action by Somerset Council, police and enforcement teams.
The vehicle was hauled away during scheduled work by the council's parking team and is now in secure storage for 14 days. The removal followed growing concerns from residents and businesses over obstruction and misuse of public space.
A Somerset Council spokesperson said: "Our parking team was carrying out some scheduled work in St John's Car Park and the vehicle was causing an obstruction. It was therefore removed and will be stored safely for a period of 14 days to allow the owner to collect it.
"There have been a further four removals of abandoned vehicles in and around Glastonbury in the last two weeks."
County councillor Ewan Cameron praised the coordinated operation, calling it the result of months of hard work and joint-agency cooperation.
"I should like to say a big thank you to the Somerset Council team who arranged for this van to be removed from St John's car park in Glastonbury," he said. "We do appreciate that residents are sometimes frustrated with what appear to be abandoned vehicles in Glastonbury. That was not the case in this instance."
He confirmed the owner had been approached ahead of the removal and formally notified. "This case has taken months of work and correspondence to get to this point," he said.
