Former Glastonbury mayor Michael (Mike) Free has died at the age of 80, the town council confirmed on 28 November 2025. He passed away on Monday, 17 November 2025.

Mr Free served as Mayor of Glastonbury twice — first in 1989 and again in 1995. The town council described him as having served "with dedication and distinction".

During his time in office, he oversaw the modernisation of Glastonbury Town Hall, including installation of a lift and additional fire exits to improve accessibility to meetings and events in the historic building.

A council spokesperson said his "contributions to the community will be long remembered."

Funeral arrangements

A funeral service will be held at St John's Church in Glastonbury at 2 pm on Monday, 8 December 2025. A private burial will follow the service. A wake will be held at the Avalon Constitutional Club. The family has asked for flowers only; donations may be made to the National Kidney Federation.
