Glastonbury’s Aldi is getting a facelift – here’s what shoppers can expect

The Aldi on Street Road in Glastonbury is getting a full makeover this summer – part of the supermarket's plan to throw £650 million at expanding and improving stores across the country.
Shoppers can expect "a better layout, more room for fresh food, and energy-efficient upgrades," according to the budget giant, as it enters the next phase of its so-called 'store refresh programme'.
That means new bakery and health and beauty sections, bigger chilled ranges, more space to grab food on the go, and updated fridges using CO₂ tech – the kind of thing Aldi reckons will keep queues short and customers happy.
The Glastonbury branch is one of 30 stores due a revamp in the coming months, as Aldi looks to upgrade existing shops while building 40 new ones across the UK in 2025.
Jonathan Neale, one of Aldi UK's top bosses, said the company is on a mission to offer "the best value for money to even more shoppers", and that revamping older branches is key to that.
The refurb comes as Aldi continues to big itself up as Britain's best-paying supermarket. Hourly rates for store assistants are now at least £12.75 nationwide, with paid breaks that the chain says are worth £1,370 a year to the average worker.
Exact dates for Glastonbury's upgrade haven't been confirmed yet – but locals can expect a fresh new look by the end of summer.
