Street residents heading to the Fire Station Open Day later this month will be able to get their bikes security marked for free while they are there.

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team has confirmed it will attend the event at Street Fire Station, 70 Cranhill Road, on Saturday, 19 September, with officers due to be there from 10 am until 2 pm.

Alongside meeting residents and answering questions, officers will offer a free bike-marking service designed to help deter theft and make bicycles easier to identify if they are stolen and later recovered.

Anyone with a bike they would like security marked is being encouraged to bring it along on the day.

The policing team's attendance adds another element to the open day, which gives local residents the chance to visit Street Fire Station and meet members of the emergency services.

The fire station previously announced plans to open its doors to the community on 19 September, with visitors invited to find out more about the work carried out by crews based in Street.

For the neighbourhood team, the event also offers an opportunity to speak directly with residents away from the more formal setting of a police station or scheduled beat surgery.

Street Fire Station Open Day takes place on Saturday, 19 September at 70 Cranhill Road, Street, BA16 0BZ, with neighbourhood police attending from 10 am to 2 pm.

And if there has been a bike sitting in the shed waiting for a security mark, this is probably a fairly painless excuse to finally get it done.
