News in Glastonbury

Drop-in sessions seeking views on proposals to change the some of the support available to children and families in Somerset are underway.

The team has visited Glastonbury and is in Frome all day today, 10am-12pm in The Key Centre and 1-6pm in the library. Further drop-in sessions are as follows:

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from the driver of the vehicle reporting a fire in the rear compartment of the lorry at the above location.

On arrival the incident commander confirmed a fire in the rear compartment of a refuge lorry. Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one main jet to extinguishing the fire.

Location: Sub Road, Butleigh, Street

Fire appliances from Street and Somerton along with the Heavy Rescue Unit from Glastonbury were mobilised to a report of a road traffic collision with one person trapped.
On arrival at the scene crews confirmed a one vehicle road traffic collision with the vehicle on its roof.  One male casualty was trapped by his legs within the vehicle.  Crews carried out first aid before the arrival of ambulance crews and got to work removing the driver side door using hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools.  Fire crews released the casualty from the vehicle into the hands of the paramedics, who was transported by ambulance landrover to a waiting air ambulance.

Two crews from Glastonbury were mobilised to a report of a car on fire outside a property.

The crews confirmed the car was well alight upon arrival and was 80% damaged by fire by the time the crews were able to extinguish it using compressed air foam and breathing apparatus.

Location: Street Road, Glastonbury

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from Police requesting our attendance at a single vehicle road traffic collision where all persons were out of the vehicle but a dog was trapped within the vehicle.

On arrival crews got to work using one hydraulic combi tool to release the dog uninjured from the boot of the vehicle. The vehicle was attached to a winch and removed from the carriageway by the crews and environmental absorption pads were also applied to the underside of the vehicle to prevent any spillages.

Day services update

Work to modernise learning disability support is being brought forward with the closure of the Six Acres Day Centre in Taunton next year.

Some, such as the Seahorses centre in Minehead, will be developed where they are if there is scope for change, others will close with local options for community-based support developed.
