St Dunstan's School has retained its 'Good' status in the latest Ofsted inspection held on 6 and 7 February 2024.

Under the leadership of headteacher Lynda Bevan, and as part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, the school has demonstrated strong qualities across various areas of education.

The Ofsted report praises the school for creating a safe, inclusive community where pupils are known as individuals and feel empowered.

With a reward system based on values such as truth, resilience, ambition, community, and kindness, students are motivated to stay 'On Track' with their learning and behaviour. The introduction of 'Dunnie Dollars' has been particularly well-received, encouraging students to engage actively in school life and leadership roles.

A key highlight from the inspection is the school's vibrant reading culture. St Dunstan's has been successful in instilling a love of reading in both pupils and staff, with a carefully selected range of books that inspire and interest students through to Year 11. The support for weaker readers is robust, enabling them to catch up with their peers quickly.

The curriculum at St Dunstan's is broad and ambitious, covering unique aspects and vocabulary of different subjects. Through the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, the school can access subject networks that enhance teachers' specialist knowledge and pedagogical approaches. This collaboration has led to significant achievements in student qualifications.

However, the report identifies areas for improvement, such as using assessment data more effectively to address gaps in pupils' understanding before moving on to new concepts. It also notes the need for clearer communication and review processes for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), although steps are already being taken to address this issue.

The school's Autism Resource Centre (ARC) provides bespoke interventions and support for pupils with autism, highlighting the school's commitment to catering to the individual needs and ambitions of its students.

Leadership and management within the school and trust are commended for their accurate understanding of the school's strengths and areas for development. The trust's support has been instrumental in navigating periods of change and increasing pupil numbers, contributing to a positive work environment for staff.

Safeguarding measures at St Dunstan's are effective, ensuring a safe environment for all students.

The school is commended for its vision of creating aware, engaged, and active pupils prepared for the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
