Flynn Godfrey, a Millfield School student based in Street, has gained a spot at the newly opened Cambridge Mathematics School, a specialist Sixth Form developed in partnership with the University of Cambridge.

The institution aims to serve students aged 16-19 who demonstrate a keen aptitude for mathematics.

Flynn joined Millfield in Year 10 and achieved an impressive set of GCSE results including six 9s, one 8, one 7, and a B in Additional Maths. "I was both proud and relieved about finding out I had a place at the Cambridge Maths School. I didn't expect to get in," Flynn said about his admission.

Besides his academic prowess, Flynn has also been active in sports. He represented Millfield in the National Tennis Finals this year, where his team claimed the National School title for the first time in a decade. "It was quite a journey, arriving mid-year, settling into an established house with no existing friends. But it was all worth it for the experience," Flynn reflected.

One of the challenges Flynn faced was balancing his academic and athletic commitments. "As the exams approached, I spoke to key people about what I wanted to achieve, and they helped me to plan and focus. Millfield helps you develop academically and still gives you time to play your sport; you don't have to compromise either too much," he explained.

Flynn's houseparent at Millfield, Tristan Kingsford, described Flynn as a diligent student who would often support and encourage his peers. Flynn's parents, Loraine and Richard, expressed that Millfield had been an "important and unforgettable stepping stone" in their son's life.

Cambridge Mathematics School focuses on a rigorous curriculum with A-level Maths and Further Maths as the core subjects. Students can also opt to study additional subjects such as Physics, Biology, Chemistry, or Computer Science. The school's primary goal is to prepare its students for higher studies in mathematics at top universities.
