Street's annual Merriman Park Fun Day was a lively celebration on Saturday, bringing together local residents for an afternoon and evening filled with entertainment, performances, and community activities.

The event, which kicked off at 1pm, showcased a range of local talents and organisations, with something on offer for all ages.

The fun began with an energetic performance by the Glastonbury Dragon Drummers, followed by displays from the Tor Mini Rugby team and Doryoku Ryu Karate.

As the afternoon progressed, Cirque de Silk wowed the audience with their acrobatics, and Twiglet Time added to the family-friendly atmosphere.

Local music acts took to the stage in the evening, starting with Absolute Zero, who performed from 5pm, followed by a lively disco set from Bernie Lock. Later performances included singer Rosie Smith and the ever-popular Bonkers Bingo, which entertained the crowd before The Treasury Band closed the night with a set that ran until nearly 10pm.

In addition to the performances, the fun day featured a wide variety of food stalls, ensuring that attendees could enjoy everything from pizzas by Ascione to Thai cuisine from Pop's Thai Kitchen. There were also sweet treats on offer, including lollies from Olly's Lollies, while Walton WI served up their homemade favourites.

The day wasn't just about entertainment – several community organisations were on hand to engage with the public. Stalls were run by the Friends of Street Library, the Friends of Strode Theatre, the Glastonbury and Street Lions Club, and the local Sea Cadets. The Street Neighbourhood Watch Association was also present, providing information to locals on how to get involved in their community.

The event, organised to raise funds for improving Merriman Park and its facilities, was hailed as a success by the community group behind it, despite some anti-social behaviour meaning the event closed earlier than anticipated.

A spokesperson commented, "It's wonderful to see the community come together in such a positive way. The money raised will go towards making the park an even better space for everyone to enjoy.
