Hopes that community events will return to the Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury soon

The management team at the Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury are busy making plans to enable them to put on community events in the venue soon.
The team have been meeting online almost on a daily basis to organise jobs at the venue, and be prepared for when they can reopen.
The government has a five-step plan to allow performance venues to reopen, and the Assembly Rooms team believe they will be good to start operating once we move from the current stage three to stage four.
Secretary and member of the management team, Craig Mcfarlane, told Glastonbury Nub News: "We very much hope to put on community type events again soon.
"We also want, of course, to have a safe environment for people to return to, and our hands are tied slightly just now through with the rules.
"There is a five-step government plan for performing arts organisations, etc, and we moved on to stage three on July 11.
"This means that performances outdoors with an audience and pilots for indoor performances with a limited socially-distanced audience are allowed.
"Step four, though we don't know when step four will commence, will mean performances allowed indoors and outdoors but with a limited socially-distanced audience indoors, whereas step five will mean performances allowed indoors and outdoors with a fuller audience indoors."
Mr Mcfarlane said that stage three is no good for the Assembly Rooms, but stage four would allow them to set out tables in the hall, limit capacity accordingly, have a one-way system around the hall, and provide table service from the bar.
He said: "We have many musicians very eager to come and play again.
"Our next seasonal community night would be on August 1 and would celebrate Lughnasadh, the Gaelic festival celebrating the start of harvest season, and directly between summer solstice and autumn equinox.
"These nights throughout the year are very important to us, it would have been a great night to welcome people back in, and it might still happen, if we move to step four.
"It would probably be step five before we could do dance nights, and events full to usual capacity.
"Limited capacity would be a start, but not great financially, as those type of nights are usually 'magick hat' nights, which means basically entry by donation, give what you can, if you can.
"We aren't much the wiser at the moment about the recent alleged help for theatres and venues, etc.
"Our accountant tried last week to apply, but at that point applications weren't being taken yet, or rather, no application forms were yet ready.
"Hopefully we will succeed very soon. We did receive the previous £10,000 available from the government thankfully, as insurance itself costs us a fortune, with no events coming in.
"It has been challenging throughout lockdown, but lots of jobs have been getting done in the building, such as painting, etc, and lots of work upgrading the technical side of hall with the sound system and lighting.
"It has also brought the management team together as we have been meeting online on an almost daily basis. We very much hope to have a good autumn and winter."
