Residents in Street are being invited to a community event focused on cycling, sustainability and local volunteering later this month.

Street Parish Council will host Discover Your Community at Crispin Hall in Street, Somerset, on Saturday, 28 March 2026 from 10 am to 2 pm.

The event will bring together a range of environmental and community organisations to showcase their work and speak with residents about local projects and volunteering opportunities.

One of the main attractions will be Dr Bike sessions, offering cyclists free bike safety checks and maintenance advice.

The sessions, delivered by Cytech Level 2 and Level 3 qualified mechanics from On Your Bike, will last around 15 minutes and are open to cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Mechanics will carry out checks in front of participants while explaining any issues and offering practical maintenance advice. Where time allows, essential parts such as brake blocks or cables may also be replaced.

The Dr Bike sessions are part of the Avalon and Poldens Local Community Network project, which aims to promote safer cycling and encourage more sustainable travel.

The initiative is supported by funding from the Somerset Association of Local Councils' Community Health and Wellbeing Fund.

Organisers say the event will also give residents the chance to meet local organisations working on environmental and community initiatives across the Street area.

Award-winning television and radio presenter Simon Parkin is expected to attend the event as a special guest.

Street Parish Council says the day is designed to help residents discover ways they can get involved in building a more resilient and environmentally sustainable community.
