A Glastonbury nursery has impressed Ofsted in its first inspection, earning a solid "Good" rating across the board.

Playaways Nursery, based at The Hub in Orchard Court, was visited on Monday, 15 September 2025. Inspectors praised the team's enthusiasm, skilled teaching and strong community ties.

The report highlights how staff get stuck in during play, cheer on babies mastering new skills, and challenge youngsters to be independent from the start.

"Babies relish exploring new sensory experiences," the inspector wrote. "Staff support their emerging language as they skilfully model new words."

Outside, older children build balance beams with crates and wood, with staff helping them assess risk safely. Staff also weave in new vocabulary and support hands-on learning.

"Staff immerse themselves into children's play and children seek out staff to play with them. This creates a harmonious environment," the report said.

Kids were described as "kind, thoughtful and well-mannered", with staff offering "meaningful praise" and setting clear expectations. One child passed a toy to a friend and beamed with pride when staff praised their kindness.

Leaders were given credit for mentoring staff, funding home learning support, and forging strong links with parents.

"Leaders have formed strong partnerships with parents," inspectors noted. "Parents report that their children are happy and describe staff as friendly, attentive, caring and genuinely invested."

The nursery also takes children out into the town to visit shops and parks, incorporating local traditions like the Glastonbury Festival into its learning.

Two areas for improvement were flagged: staff were told to use mealtimes to better explain how food helps the body grow, and Ofsted noted the nursery had failed to report a past notifiable event. However, inspectors confirmed this had "no impact on children's safety" and said the provider "now has a good understanding of when to notify Ofsted".
