Hard-up households in Somerset are being urged to act fast to get free help with soaring winter bills.
Somerset Council is dishing out a £6.74 million support package to help residents hit by the cost-of-living crisis. The cash, from the Government's Household Support Fund, is being funnelled into food schemes, heating help and emergency payments through trusted local charities and groups.
Help on offer includes food pantries, furniture and bedding, mental health and loneliness support, rent and council tax aid, and fuel grants for older people struggling to stay warm.
Council leader Bill Revans said: "We know the arrival of winter will be tough for so many residents and are working with our communities and partners to ensure help is available.
"If the cost-of-living crisis is having a detrimental effect on your life and you need some extra help, I urge you to act early and find out more about the support on offer."
The funding runs until March 2026 — but council bosses warn people not to leave it too late to apply.
Full details, including how to check eligibility and apply, are at Somerset Council's website.
