Somerset Council is reminding residents to make sure their bins are 'standing to attention' as crews collect a day later in the week beginning Monday 8 May.

Crews have been collecting on the usual scheduled days this week, after crews worked on bank holiday Monday 1 May.

But they will NOT be collecting on the extra coronation bank holiday, Monday 8 May.

Collections of recycling, refuse and garden waste will all be one day later in the week beginning 8 May.

If your recycling and/or refuse is usually collected on a Monday, then it will be collected on a Tuesday, if your usual day is a Tuesday it will be collected on a Wednesday and so on. That includes collections that would usually take place on Friday 12 May taking place on Saturday 13 May.

All 16 recycling sites will be open as usual at weekends, 9am to 4pm. And, if opening Mondays is part of their normal opening pattern, they will be open on both Bank Holiday Mondays (1 May and 8 May), from 9am to 6pm.

The extra bank holiday for the coronation of King Charles has meant two consecutive Monday Bank Holidays, which is unprecedented outside of the Christmas period.

Last week, crews collected residents' waste on Bank Holiday Monday, 1 May. This allows crews to enjoy the festivities of the coronation weekend, and avoid additional collections on coronation day itself where street parties and road closures would make collecting more difficult.
