Glastonbury Town Council has elected Councillor Zoe Price as the town's new mayor for the coming civic year.
Councillors voted to appoint Councillor Price during the council's annual meeting on Tuesday evening, following a nomination from outgoing mayor Michael White.
Cllr White praised her work as deputy mayor, calling her "very diligent, very efficient" and someone who consistently championed "the less fortunate".
After being elected, Cllr Price said she wanted her mayoral year to focus on "cooperation, kindness and community", with a particular emphasis on children and young people.
She told the chamber: "It is a huge privilege to be asked to undertake the responsibility of first citizen of Glastonbury and I promise to continue to serve my community with openness, kindness, respect and a willingness to collaborate."
Cllr Price also announced the charities she will support during her year in office: the Sacred Birthing Centre, Mama Village and Children's World.
She paid tribute to her late mother Michelle Denny, describing her as a much-loved figure in the community who had also served as mayor.
The council later elected a new deputy mayor for the year ahead, Cllr Lokabandhu.
He thanked councillors for their support and said the council should work together to "make the most of the year" before the next local elections.
