Glastonbury Dragons set 10th birthday May Fayre blow-out
By Laura Linham 6th Mar 2026
Glastonbury's mythical mascots are turning 10 years old — and the town is throwing them a birthday party.
The Glastonbury Dragons May Fayre and Procession returns on Sunday 3 May 2026, bringing a full day of music, Morris dancing, drumming and dragon-fuelled spectacle across the town.
This year marks a decade of the Glastonbury Dragons, and organisers say the creatures will be transformed for their birthday celebrations, with newly created versions of the Red and White Glastonbury Dragons expected to appear.
And what's a birthday without cake? Local bakers Burns the Bread are creating a special 10th birthday cake for the dragons — though quite how the fire-breathing guests of honour might blow out the candles remains to be seen.
The free community celebration takes place across three locations in Glastonbury, ending with a ceremonial gathering on the slopes of Glastonbury Tor.
The day begins at Tor Leisure Centre, where the Glastonbury Dragons May Fayre opens with dragon and May-themed handmade arts and crafts alongside traditional birthday-style games.
From there the celebration moves into the town centre. At Glastonbury Market Cross and along the High Street, Morris dancers and musicians will perform before the dragons lead a lively procession through town.
The parade will then climb towards the Fairfield on Glastonbury Tor, where the dragons' seasonal ceremony takes place in the Blossom Circle.
Joining the celebrations will be a range of performers and ceremonial groups including Pentacle Drummers, Glastonbury Border Morris, Boudica Rocks Morris, Lady Amp, Glastonbury Dragon Drummers and The Drummers of Avalon, alongside ceremonialists and local performers.
The Red and White Glastonbury Dragons will appear throughout the day, including their traditional "battle of the season" during the parade.
