Glastonbury chippy scoops top national award
By Laura Linham 26th Feb 2026
A Glastonbury fish and chip restaurant has been crowned one of the best in the UK after scooping a major national industry award.
Knight's Fish Restaurant in Glastonbury, Somerset, was named Quality Accreditation Champion at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2026, held this month and organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF).
The annual awards, now in their 38th year, are regarded as the official competition for the UK fish and chip industry. Open to more than 10,500 operators nationwide, entrants are put through a rigorous judging process including interviews, skills tests, live assessments and anonymous taste testing.
Organisers say the Quality Accreditation Champion title recognises businesses that demonstrate high standards in product knowledge, sustainability, customer service and overall business practice.
Nationally, the headline Takeaway of the Year award went to The Scrap Box in York, while other categories celebrated excellence in restaurants, young fish friers, sustainability and community engagement.
Andrew Crook, president of the NFFF, said this year's competition was one of the toughest to judge, with standards set "extremely high" to ensure businesses are delivering top-quality meals and driving best practice across the sector.
Seafood from Norway, the principal sponsor, congratulated winners and praised the industry's ongoing commitment to quality.
The win puts Knight's Fish Restaurant firmly in the spotlight as one of the UK's leading fish and chip businesses for 2026.
