A Street sixth form student has secured a coveted place at one of Oxford University's most competitive colleges.

Freddie Beasley, an Upper Sixth pupil at Millfield School in Street, has received an offer to study Computer Science at Magdalen College, Oxford. The course is widely regarded as one of the most academically demanding in the UK.

Freddie, who is from Somerset, joined Millfield Prep in Year 7 and is currently studying A levels in Computer Science, Physics, Maths and Further Maths. He is also the first student to create an artefact for the CyberEPQ by programming two blockchains.

Reflecting on the offer, Freddie said studying at Oxford had been "at the back of my mind for many years".

"It feels incredibly rewarding to have achieved something I set my sights on so long ago, and I am excited to take on the next challenge," he said.

He received the news after sitting one of his mock exams.

"I did not have much time to process it at first, but I immediately called my parents to share the news. They were incredibly proud. I'm still not sure it has fully sunk in."

Alongside his academic studies, Freddie has represented the school in rugby, hockey, cricket, athletics and tennis, and has taken part in debating. He has served as School Captain and is a member of the Bath 2025/26 Under-18 rugby team.

Millfield's head of academic culture, Beatrice Priest, said the offer was a "substantial achievement", adding that Magdalen College typically offers places to around one in 10 applicants.

She said Freddie had consistently demonstrated dedication to his studies and had taken part in numerous Olympiads and external competitions during his time at the school.

Looking ahead, Freddie hopes to pursue a career in the artificial intelligence sector.

"I want to gain experience in how emerging technologies can shape the future," he said. "In the long term, I would like to create businesses that use AI to innovate and improve the lives of others."

As he approaches the end of his time at Millfield, he plans to focus on revision while making the most of final events with classmates, including the Sixth Form Ball and Summer Celebration.
