Glastonbury fire crews urge drivers to park responsibly

Glastonbury Fire Station has urged drivers to park responsibly after concerns vehicles are blocking access for emergency crews in Street and Glastonbury.
In a message shared this week, firefighters said they have "recently noticed vehicles parked in ways that make it difficult for emergency services to pass through"
The station warned that fire engines and ambulances are much larger than regular vehicles and require significant space to manoeuvre safely. Crews stressed that in an emergency "every second counts" and that blocked or narrow roads could delay firefighters from reaching someone's home when they are needed most.
Firefighters are asking residents and visitors to help keep routes clear by:
• Avoiding parking opposite another vehicle on narrow roads
• Keeping junctions, corners and access points clear
• Leaving enough width for large emergency vehicles to pass
• Not blocking hydrants, driveways or emergency access routes
They added: "It might seem like 'just a minute,' but that minute could make all the difference in an emergency."
Parking pressures are a recurring issue in parts of Glastonbury, particularly on narrower residential roads and near key access routes. Emergency services have not specified particular streets affected but are appealing for wider awareness across the town.
Residents are being asked to think carefully before leaving vehicles in tight spaces and to consider whether a fire engine or ambulance could pass safely.
