Street has seen a notable reduction in recorded crimes for July 2024, with 77 incidents logged by local authorities compared to 101 in June.

While the overall decrease in crime is encouraging, violent crime remains a significant concern, continuing to make up the largest portion of recorded offences.

The latest figures reveal a drop across several crime categories, including public order offences and burglaries. In June, there were 21 public order incidents, which fell to 10 in July, and burglaries also decreased from 8 to 2 over the same period.

However, violent crime, which includes physical assault and domestic abuse, remains high, with 30 incidents recorded in July, down slightly from 36 in June.

Anti-social behaviour, which remained steady with 13 incidents in both months, includes disruptive behaviour in public spaces, such as harassment, vandalism, and unruly behaviour. Shoplifting also saw a small reduction, from 9 incidents in June to 7 in July, while other thefts, which cover incidents outside specific categories like vehicle or personal theft, remained relatively low at 6 cases.

Criminal damage and arson, involving damage to property or vehicles and deliberate fires, showed a minor increase, while vehicle crime remained unchanged, with 2 incidents reported in both months.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police commented on the figures: "While we are encouraged by the overall reduction in crime for July, particularly in areas like public order offences and burglaries, we remain concerned about the high levels of violent crime. This continues to be an area of focus for us, and we are working closely with the community to address these issues. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as every piece of information helps us better understand and tackle crime in the area."

The police also highlighted the importance of maintaining an active dialogue between law enforcement and the community to ensure that ongoing issues, particularly in relation to violent crime, are addressed promptly and effectively.
