Glastonbury Town Council has confirmed a vacancy in St Edmund's Ward following the death of long-serving councillor Nicholas James Cottle.

Cllr Cottle, a respected and well-known figure in the town, passed away last month. Now, residents in his ward have until 27 September 2025 to trigger a by-election — otherwise the seat will be filled by the council through co-option.

For a vote to go ahead, at least ten local electors must write to Somerset Council's Returning Officer. If that doesn't happen, councillors will choose someone to take the role at a future meeting.

Anyone wishing to request an election should contact:

Duncan Sharkey, Returning Officer

Somerset Council, County Hall, 2 The Crescent, Taunton, TA1 4DY
