Sarah Dyke MP tables parliamentary motion to honour councillor Nick Cottle

By Laura Linham 11th Sep 2025

Sarah Dyke, Liberal Democrat MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, has submitted an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament today paying tribute to Councillor Nick Cottle, who died last month aged 68.

The motion honours Cllr Cottle's 25 years of public service, beginning with his election to Glastonbury Town Council in 1999 and continuing through roles on Mendip District Council and Somerset Council. It highlights his positions as Deputy Chair of Mendip District Council, Chair of the East Planning Committee, member of the scrutiny committee, and praises his integrity, dedication and determination in serving Glastonbury.

Sarah Dyke said: "I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cllr Nick Cottle. I had the privilege of serving alongside Nick during my time at Somerset Council, and I will always remember his warmth, good humour, and absolute dedication to the people of Glastonbury. Nick worked tirelessly for his community, always putting the needs of residents first and ensuring their voices were heard. His kindness, integrity, and commitment to public service set an example to us all. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him at this very difficult time."

The EDM expresses the condolences of Parliament and celebrates the contribution Cllr Cottle made to local life, underlining his lasting legacy in Glastonbury and beyond.
