Free home thermal imaging opportunity

A small group of Glastonbury volunteers can help survey your house with you, for free, using a thermal imaging camera. The camera has been kindly lent to Glastonbury Climate and Ecological Emergency Advisory Committee by Sustainable Wells, throughout January.

"It will probably confirm things you already suspected - people know their homes. There can be surprising insights, too. It all helps to make a case for available grants and remedial work", says Maddy from Wells.suspected

The camera shows in bright colours the temperature differences and identifies where your heat leaks are, so you know what action to take. It might mean simple measures - like getting thermal curtains, fixing gaps or moving mats to cover where heat is being lost.

"Seeing the images prompted me to install a window blind in the kitchen, to draw the blinds and curtains, insulate behind hot water pipes and make simple draught-excluders for doors where I could see heat escaping," says Susannah.

"I discovered my landing window, which was still single-glazed, was pouring heat." said Rachael from Glastonbury.

Doing two or three adjoining properties might be helpful, so try to arrange a visit with your neighbours. Book a free slot by emailing [email protected] with your address, postcode and telephone contact, or drop a note or telephone message to the Climate Officer at Glastonbury Town Hall.
