The two teams of cast members who brought Sleeping Beauty to panto audiences at Strode Theatre in Street

Glastonbury and Street Musical Comedy Society (GSMCS) has another top prize to add to its trophy cabinet after winning big in an annual pantomime competition.

The society's Sleeping Beauty was named the second best amateur panto in Somerset among more than 20 other groups by the Somerset Fellowship of Drama at its annual Cinderella Awards at the weekend.

Glastonbury Dragons - Red Dragon

A reminder - the Glastonbury Dragons May Fayre event which was to be held on Sunday May 3 alongside the Glastonbury Road Race has been cancelled due to the world events.

As you can see in the photograph the Red Dragon was getting ready earlier in the year before lockdown, but has now decided to join the White Dragon in their lair underneath Glastonbury Tor and await the Samhain event which is planned for October.

Food shopping is a 'reasonable excuse' to leave the home

Police chiefs have set out guidelines on what exactly people in Glastonbury can and can not do during the coronavirus lockdown.

The National Police Chiefs' Council and College of Policing has published a document, reproducing a practical guide by the Crime Prosecution Service, to explain to officers what constitutes a 'reasonable excuse' to leave home.

A fire rescue team from Glastonbury helped to free a casualty last night (April 16) who got trapped trying to recover a vehicle that had crashed 100 metres off a road near Somerton.

Just before 11.30pm last night, Devon and Somerset Fire Control received a call from the ambulance service requesting assistance to recover one casualty from underneath a vehicle on the B3153 Snap Hill near Somerton.

Mendip pays out over £14 million in grants to local businesses

Mendip District Council has issued over £14 million in grants to more than 1,000 organisations affected by the coronavirus crisis – offering a lifeline to Mendip businesses and the local economy.

Some 3,500 companies across the district will be assisted through the government's measures (additional reliefs and/or grants), and small businesses are being encouraged to apply online to access the help.
