Vigilante road painter tackles fading markings in Glastonbury car park

Part of the one-way system in Glastonbury's St John's Car Park has been unexpectedly repainted — not by the council, but by a mystery local who appears to have taken matters into their own hands.
The road markings in the town centre car park had faded to the point of being nearly invisible, with drivers frequently seen entering and exiting bays the wrong way or ignoring the one-way flow altogether. Residents had reported the issue to Somerset Council, but no action had been taken.
This week, around a third of the directional markings were suddenly brought back to life with new white spray paint — a clear attempt to reinstate some order in the car park.

A Somerset Council spokesperson said: "Somerset Council is responsible for the maintenance of road markings and would encourage people to report issues via our online portal rather than carry out work themselves. You can report a problem quickly and easily here: Report a problem on the road."
It's not clear who the DIY road painter is, but some locals have welcomed the intervention, calling it a "helpful nudge" for drivers navigating the increasingly confusing car park.
No timeframe has yet been given for when the remaining official markings will be restored.
