Street unites in remembrance as parade honours the fallen

Rain fell softly over Street this afternoon as the town came together to remember those who gave their lives in service.
It was the second act of remembrance that day, following Glastonbury's morning ceremony. The events are deliberately staggered each year so that people from both close-knit communities can attend both services — a shared tradition of respect that binds the towns together.
Umbrellas lined the pavements as the Remembrance Parade set off from the Royal British Legion on Farm Road, led by veterans and local groups. The steady rain did little to dampen the turnout — or the spirit — of those who gathered to pay their respects.
The procession paused at the United Reformed Church, where wreaths were laid in quiet tribute. Drops of rain slid down the poppies as the crowd stood in silence, heads bowed, remembering those who never came home.
From there, the parade continued along Vestry Road to Merriman Park, where a full service was held beneath grey skies. Despite the weather, the atmosphere was one of warmth and unity as families, veterans, and community members gathered for the second wreath-laying.

The separate services - one in Glastonbury in the morning, and Street's in the afternoon - allowed people to attend both commemorations, sharing in a day of reflection that linked past and present through simple acts of remembrance.
As the final notes of the Last Post echoed through the park, umbrellas lowered, and Street stood silent in the rain — together, remembering.
