Residents in Street flagged a car with four unrestrained children, prompting swift police action.

Quick-thinking residents in Street helped police stop a car carrying four children without car seats — after flagging down an officer on patrol.

The alarm was raised on Tuesday when two members of the public spotted a vehicle with four youngsters loose in the back seat and waved down PC James Higgins.

Cops tracked the car down within ten minutes and pulled it over, preventing what could have been a devastating outcome.

"This is a brilliant example of how we can all play a part in keeping our roads safe," said officers. "If something doesn't look right, speak up — it really can make a difference."

By law, children must be in a car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall. Failing to comply can lead to fines, penalty points or prosecution.
