Street groups receive over £95,000 in council grants

Street Parish Council's Policy and Finance Committee has approved grants totalling £95,343 to support local organisations, following its meeting on 27 August 2024.
Among the largest awards were £30,000 to Greenbank Pool, which will offer discounted season tickets to residents, and £30,000 to Strode Theatre to help subsidise its diverse arts and cultural programmes, including free events and community group hire.
Crispin Community Centre received £15,000 to support its services, including £3,000 for a volunteer driver scheme and £2,000 for its soup kitchen.
Other beneficiaries include Street Football Club, which was granted £3,000 towards pitch maintenance, and the Salvation Army, which received £5,100 to provide Aldi vouchers for food parcels from September to March.
Here is the full list of grants awarded:
- Greenbank Pool – £30,000 (in two instalments) to offer discounted season tickets to residents.
- Strode Theatre – £30,000 to subsidise arts and culture programmes, help with free events, and continue affordable hire rates for community groups.
- Crispin Community Centre – £15,000, including £10,000 for the centre, £3,000 for the Volunteer Driver Scheme, and £2,000 for the soup kitchen.
- Street Football Club – £3,000 towards pitch maintenance, with the remaining £2,859 to be considered after more information is provided.
- Salvation Army – £5,100 to provide Aldi vouchers for food parcels between September and March.
- Glastonbury & Street Sea Cadets – £1,000 towards the purchase of windsurfing boards.
- The Anglican Parish of Street – £1,000 for the 'coffee, chat and snacks' community space at Mission Church.
- Street Fire Station Fundraising Crew – £1,000 for the maintenance of the public defibrillator.
- Friends of Street Library – £300 towards the provision of newspapers for the library.
- Street & Glastonbury Carers Support Group – £180 to cover the cost of meeting rooms for nine months.
- Street Striders Running Club – £2,000 towards the provision of a clubhouse.
- Houndwood Community Group – £600 for insurance, newsletters, litter pick equipment, garden supplies, and ecological awareness projects.
These grants were approved as part of the council's 2024/25 budget for supporting local initiatives. Grants over £2,000 will be recommended to the full council for final approval.
