Street FC are calling on fans and the wider football community to help save the career of young midfielder Freddie Hayden, after a horror knee injury left him facing months — or even years — on the sidelines.
Freddie, who has been tipped for a bright future after representing England Schoolboys U18s, went down during Street's FA Vase clash with Shortwood on 18 October. The match was abandoned while an ambulance was rushed to the pitch.
Scans have now confirmed the worst. He's torn his ACL and needs reconstruction surgery. But with NHS waiting lists stretching into next year, his family say time is running out — and every week risks further damage, muscle loss, and the end of his football dream.
They've launched a fundraiser to pay for private treatment, hoping to get him into surgery quickly enough to protect the rest of his knee and give him any chance of returning to the level he fought so hard to reach.
The costs are huge, covering the operation, orthopaedic specialists, physio, rehab, strength training and follow-up care.
Freddie has lived and breathed football since he was seven, progressing from grassroots to district football, then into adult football with Street.
The campaign is rallying support under the tag getfreddiefit — and the club say every donation, big or small, will help get him back where he belongs: on the pitch, in Street colours.
