Street college rebuild moves forward alongside Crispin upgrade
By Laura Linham 3rd Nov 2026
Strode College's planned teaching block replacement has moved another step through the planning process, alongside improvements to catering facilities at neighbouring Crispin School.
A new application submitted to Somerset Council on 26 October seeks approval for construction arrangements, archaeology, drainage and landscaping associated with the Church Road redevelopment.
The wider scheme includes demolishing and replacing the college's Block A, with temporary buildings also included in the plans. At Crispin, part of an existing building would be demolished to make way for a catering kitchen and refectory.
The college works also include removing a portacabin and installing new plant and a transformer. Landscaping forms part of the redevelopment across the site.
The latest submission follows the earlier planning permission for the scheme. It asks the council to approve details required by five conditions attached to that consent, rather than seeking permission for the whole development again.
Among the 31 documents listed are a construction environmental management plan, an archaeological assessment and drainage reports. Drawings also cover planting, boundary treatments, fences, gates and a canopy with solar panels.
A separate application submitted on 8 October addresses biodiversity, habitat management and lighting requirements linked to the same redevelopment. Together, the submissions deal with details attached to the original permission.
The latest application is registered and awaiting a decision. Its reference is 2026/2067/APP, while the original scheme is listed under 2025/2302/FUL.
Residents can view the application and supporting documents on Somerset Council's planning website.
