Street climate film screening aims to spark action
By Laura Linham 5th May 2026
A free climate and nature crisis film screening is being held at the Victoria Club in Street on May 9.
The event, at 5pm, will show The People's Emergency Briefing, a film featuring nine leading UK scientists speaking about the climate and nature crisis and its impact on everyday life.
The screening is being hosted by a local group made up of some Mid Somerset Quakers and two Street Parish Councillors.
Organisers say the film is only being shown at in-person screenings across the UK.
Cllr Swift said: "This screening is free, no need to book and we hope the discussion afterwards might lead to setting up Street's Sustainability Network.
"The idea of the film is to galvanise local responses to the crisis — every little change or initiative will help as well as lobbying government to take the crisis more seriously.
"The film points out that the climate crisis will be more damaging than the outbreak of WW2."
The screening will be followed by a discussion about possible local action in Street.
Organisers hope it could lead to new community links around sustainability, practical changes and campaigning.
