Street and Glastonbury to adopt new waste collection schedules
Starting Monday, 17 June 2024, residents of Street and Glastonbury will experience changes to their waste collection days as part of Somerset Council's initiative to enhance efficiency.
The revision, carried out by SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, aims to streamline operations, reduce the environmental footprint, and maintain cost-effectiveness without incurring additional charges to the council.
Affected households will be informed of changes to their collection days or the specific weeks their rubbish is collected through a letter expected in early May.
This communication will include a service guide and a calendar marking the new collection days, essential for keeping up with the adjustments.
Residents whose schedules remain unchanged will not receive a letter but can anticipate receiving the new service guide and calendar by the end of May. Garden waste collection will proceed according to the existing timetable, and there are no changes to clinical or communal property waste collections.
Councillor Dixie Darch, Executive Lead Member for Climate and Environment, said: "Changes to recycling and rubbish collections have been designed to make the routes more manageable for crews, as well as being more environmentally friendly and cost effective.
"Look out for your letter and service guide and take note of your collection day. If you don't receive a letter this means that your day is staying the same.
"The changes come at no additional cost to the council and will help towards making the county greener and more sustainable. Please make a note of your new collection day and possible interim rubbish collection. Crews can't return for missed collections where bins are not out on the right day."
