Staff act fast after reports of naked man near Glastonbury school

Police were called to Wells Road in Glastonbury on Monday afternoon after reports that a man had been seen naked near St Dunstan's School.
Staff raised the alarm shortly before the end of the school day and, as a precaution, kept pupils on site.
By the time officers arrived, the man had already left the area.
In the UK, public nudity is not automatically a criminal offence. The law distinguishes between simple nudity and behaviour intended to cause alarm or distress. A person who is nude in public without intent to offend — such as walking or sunbathing — is not necessarily breaking the law.
However, it can become a criminal matter if there is evidence of intent to harass, alarm, or if the behaviour amounts to indecent exposure or outraging public decency.
Police assess each situation based on the person's intent, the context, and the setting.
In a statement, St Dunstan's said: "This action was taken due to reports that a member of the public was acting in a suspicious manner on the main road outside the school. School staff promptly informed the police, and the individual moved on when asked.
"St Dunstan's School takes the safety and welfare of our pupils very seriously, and we were being very cautious to safeguard our community. We thank parents and the community for their support and understanding in regards to this matter."
We are awaiting further information from the police.
