Wells celebrates autumn with talks on health, climate and rewilding as the Festival of Literature joins Ecoweek.

Wells is set to turn green this autumn as the Wells Festival of Literature teams up with Ecoweek to present a series of talks on health, climate change and conservation.

Now in its second year, Ecoweek is organised by the Wells Environment Network and offers a week-long programme of events aimed at raising awareness about the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment.

As part of the collaboration, the literature festival will welcome three high-profile speakers covering key aspects of sustainability and wellbeing.

Kicking off the programme is renowned gut health expert Tim Spector, author of the best-selling The Diet Myth. Appearing on the festival's opening night, Friday 17 October, he will share insights into how simple, tasty fermented foods can boost health.

On Sunday, climate change specialist Mike Berners-Lee will examine why global emissions are continuing to rise despite the availability of much of the technology needed to tackle the crisis.

Later in the week, rewilding advocate James Canton will offer practical tips on how to "go wild" – even with something as small as a window box – and how to make the most of small green spaces to encourage wildlife and biodiversity.

The partnership sees the conclusion of Ecoweek's activities (11–20 October) dovetail with the launch of the Wells Festival of Literature (17–25 October), creating a seamless celebration of environmental awareness and cultural exchange.

Events will take place at various venues across Wells for Ecoweek, and at Cedars Hall for the literature festival.
