Pride, poetry and pagans: Glastonbury turns up the volume this weekend

By Laura Linham 24th Jul 2025

The weekend is packed with Pride, poetry, and pagan events.
The weekend is packed with Pride, poetry, and pagan events.

What's On in Street and Glastonbury is brought to you by our sponsors The Loft.

Glastonbury's going all out this weekend, with Pride parades, pagan meditations and even a poetry trail at the farm museum.

Street might be quiet by comparison, but there's still plenty to pull you out away from the front room and into the great outdoors — whatever your thing, you won't be short on options.

Kicking off the holidays in style, Somerset Rural Life Museum's Summer Fun on the Farm in Glastonbury runs from Wednesday 23 July until 31 August. It's an all-ages offering packed with arts and crafts, Bugfest minibeasts, a poetry trail and the new exhibition Tractored by Beetles, open daily except Mondays. Activities are drop-in and free with a Museum Unlimited Annual Pass.

Friday 25 July sees the return of the Glastonbury Carers Support and Social Group at Brunel Care Home. It's a welcoming space for unpaid carers to chat, connect and hear from guest speakers. You're even encouraged to bring the person you care for, but do ring ahead before your first visit.

Friday also brings the FordHaven SEN-friendly Disco to Tor Sports & Leisure — a relaxed, sensory-considerate night designed especially for children with additional needs and their families.

Running from 7pm to 8.30pm, the disco features limited lights, softer music and a welcoming atmosphere where kids can let loose without the pressure. Tickets are £5 and include a soft drink and a treat, with additional siblings welcome at £2. Parents are encouraged to stay, join in and support the cause. To book, email [email protected]. All funds go directly to FordHaven's SEN Youth Club, which organisers say is a lifeline for families often excluded from mainstream activities.

If you're feeling a little spiritual on Friday, the Glastonbury Pagan Moot meets at Beckets Inn from 7.30pm for a deep dive into the Green Man's folklore, ending with a guided meditation. Donations are welcome, but all are invited to attend.

Over in Wells, Friday also marks the start of Wells Beer Fest 2025 at The Sheep & Penguin. It runs through Saturday with local brews, food, live music and – mercifully – drinks that aren't beer for those less hop-inclined.

Saturday 26 July offers more than just ale. History buffs and families can head to The Bishop's Palace for an all-day archery tournament with Wells City Archers showing off their longbow skills. Entry is included with a regular ticket. Or for a more casual bite, the RAFA Mid-Somerset Summer Barbecue is firing up from 11am at Ad Astra Cider Farm in Stone Allerton, with tickets at £14 for a laid-back afternoon of food, drinks and music.

Saturday cinema returns to Shepton Mallet's Amulet with two film screenings. At 2pm, it's the animated family adventure Wild Robot, suitable for all ages with ticket prices from just £1. Later in the evening, grown-ups can settle in for the brooding drama The Brutalist, showing at 7.30pm with a licensed bar and DJs on hand.

Sunday 27 July is the big one for Glastonbury, with Glastonbury Pride 2025 taking over the town with a full-day programme of LGBTQ+ events. From drag brunches and a midday march to live music, community spaces and a quiet zone, there's something for everyone. Look for rainbow bunting and Wyvern Pride stickers at local businesses flying the flag.

To round off Pride with a bang, Rainbow Vespers at The King Arthur promises cabaret, drag, live music and fizz from 8pm till late.

And finally, Wells delivers a slice of medieval drama with the Knights Tournament at The Bishop's Palace on Sunday. Expect sword fights, archery and armour, all included with standard entry – just don't forget your sunscreen or your best cheering voice.

From minibeasts to medieval brawls, there's little excuse to stay indoors this weekend.
