Strode College in Street is kicking off a fresh round of free short courses this September – and they're open to anyone looking to learn new skills or give their confidence a boost.
Part of the UCS group, the college has lined up practical and creative classes aimed at supporting local people. The sessions are relaxed, with small class sizes and friendly tutors – and they won't cost a penny if you're unemployed or earning under £25,000.
Among the new offerings is Upcycling – Trash to Treasure, where you can turn everyday items into handmade gifts, bookmarks or clothes using teabags, fabrics and recycled paper.
Food lovers can try A Taste of Tapas, an online cooking course packed with bold flavours from around the world – including Spanish bruschetta, sushi and sliders.
If you've had a tough time and want to find your feet again, Small Steps, Big Shifts offers a gentle way to reset, with tools to build routine and boost wellbeing in a no-pressure space.
And for something more mindful, Zentangle – Mindfulness Through Tangling teaches calming drawing techniques that can help reduce stress, improve sleep and focus – no art skills needed.
More courses are also available, all starting this month. To sign up or find out more, head to the Strode College website.
