Sounds Joyful Dementia Music Sessions

Have you ever stopped to wonder why we segregate people in our community based on their health condition or age?

For example, why do people living with dementia have to have their own singing group, which is separate from people of different ages living with other health conditions or life experiences?

How would it impact people living with dementia if we welcomed younger people, those who are neurodivergent, people with learning disabilities, those living with Parkinson's Disease or people experiencing loneliness to a dementia music session?

This really would be a dementia music group with a difference - and that's exactly where our journey at Sounds Joyful has taken us! At our core we will always be a dementia music group, but through our carefully facilitated music sessions we have created a diverse community that blends harmoniously, generating something truly special which enables everyone who attends to thrive and lead richer, fuller lives. The results have been amazing.

A warm welcome and so much joy awaits at our inclusive dementia music sessions on Thursdays from 10.30-12 at St John's Hub, Church Lane, Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 9DR (no session Glastonbury Festival week). A voluntary contribution of £5pp is welcomed to cover running costs - really tasty tea, coffee and cake are included!

"When Dad realises he's coming to the sessions, his attitude completely changes. When he walks into the room his face lights up and we can really see that the music helps him. It makes a difference to me to be able to spend precious time with him doing something he enjoys." Charlotte, daughter of Garry who lives with dementia.
