Protesters to gather in Glastonbury over threats to rights and rising hate

Protesters will take to the streets of Glastonbury this weekend in a rally against what organisers call a growing threat to basic rights and freedoms.
Community Solidarity Glastonbury is staging the demonstration at the Market Place from 11.30am to 1pm on Saturday (September 27). It comes amid mounting concern over attacks on refugee rights, violence against women, and what campaigners describe as a "coordinated rollback" of LGBT+ and trans protections.
The group says the rally will give local people a chance to speak out against division and push back against far-right rhetoric. Leaflets circulating ahead of the event accuse parties like Reform of using fear and racism to target marginalised groups and distract from real issues, such as domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Organisers are also hitting out at comments made by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage earlier this year suggesting it should be harder to access abortion and divorce,
The rally will include speeches and a call to action urging the community to stand together against hate and authoritarianism.
