Police step up response to anti-social behaviour in Glastonbury town centre

Police in Glastonbury have continued their crackdown on ongoing anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Glastonbury town centre, with intensified patrols and enforcement measures focused on trouble hotspots around St John's Church and the High Street.
A small number of repeat individuals have been linked to continued disturbances, prompting officers to continue their increase presence across the area.
Alongside the core beat team, support units are targeting key areas with proactive patrols, stop checks, and visible engagement with the public and businesses.
Events like the recent Glastonbury Extravaganza passed without incident, and a reported robbery on the town's outskirts resulted in a suspect being charged and remanded.
Police are using a range of legal tools, including ASB letters, Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), Community Protection Notices (CPNs), dispersal orders, and targeted arrests of persistent offenders.
Dispersal orders allow police to remove individuals from designated areas for up to 48 hours where necessary.
The heightened effort appears to be having an effect. Officers report "increased positivity" in the High Street and churchyard, reflecting the visible support they're providing. As one police spokesperson told local media:
"We do need people to keep reporting incidents to us. We will of course deal with criminal offences robustly. However with ASB we have to follow a set of steps from warnings, through notices to court orders."
Police continue to engage with residents, shop owners, and visitors to offer reassurance and maintain trust.
