Police in Street are cracking down on anti-social drivers after residents said late-night car gatherings were disturbing their sleep.

People living on the Houndwood Estate have complained about noise and nuisance driving near the Gravenchon Way Business Park, particularly around the Sainsbury's and Home Bargains car parks.

"We've received reports from residents on the Houndwood Estate about late-night gatherings of modified vehicles near the Gravenchon Way Business Park," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said.

"The activity is particularly focused around the Sainsbury's and Home Bargains car parks, and it's been causing considerable disruption."

Street Beat officers say modified car groups are to blame and have vowed to take action. Targeted patrols are now underway, with police confirming they'll use Section 59 powers under the Police Reform Act 2002 to deal with offenders.

"We're monitoring the area closely and will take positive action against anti-social driving, including using Section 59 powers," the force said.

Young drivers have been warned about the risks of anti-social driving and the consequences they could face. Officers have spoken directly with some groups to try and reduce the problem.

"Officers have already carried out targeted patrols and spoken with modified car groups," they added. "Young drivers have also been advised about the consequences of this behaviour."

The Roads Policing and Speed Enforcement Unit is also involved. Police are urging anyone with footage or reports of nuisance driving to upload it to the Avon and Somerset Police website.

"We're working with the Roads Policing and Speed Enforcement Unit to help make the area safer, and we encourage anyone with information or footage to upload it directly to our website."
