Police seize e-scooter in Glastonbury after rider spotted carrying passenger

Police in Glastonbury have seized an e-scooter after officers saw a male rider carrying a female passenger and ignoring road signs.
The incident took place over the weekend and was dealt with by the Street and Glastonbury neighbourhood team.
Avon and Somerset Police have reminded residents that privately owned e-scooters cannot be used on public roads, pavements or cycle paths. Only rental e-scooters operating in approved trial areas are permitted, and they must be ridden solo.
Riders are also required to obey all road signs, traffic signals and speed limits. Police say that riding dangerously or illegally can lead to a scooter being seized, as well as fines and points on a driving licence.
A spokesperson for the Street and Glastonbury team said: "E-scooters may seem like a quick and easy way to get around, but using them illegally puts riders, passengers and other road users at risk. We will continue to take action where we see dangerous or unlawful use."
Anyone who witnesses illegal e-scooter use is encouraged to report it to police.
