Plans to turn Glastonbury garage into holiday let are refused
A planning application to turn a workshop/garage in Glastonbury into a short-term holiday let has been turned down.
The application to extend and change of use from workshop/garage to short term holiday let at 23A Fairfield Gardens, Glastonbury, by Kevin Brady has been refused by Mendip District Council planners.
The proposals at the garage, which is in the Glastonbury Conservation Area, were to alter the roof and raise the ridge line which would result in a gable end presenting to the street, to create a one-bedroom holiday let.
In refusing the application, Mendip's planning and growth group manager Julie Reader-Sullivan said: "The proposed development by reason of the mass, scale and design of the building on a restricted but prominent plot within the street scene, will result in a cramped form of development which fails to either enhance or preserve the conservation area resulting in less than substantial harm."
Planning applications in the Glastonbury area submitted this week to Mendip District Council include:
Demolition, and partial demolition, of farm buildings and erection of single holiday let with associated parking and landscaping at Willow Barn, Parbrook Lane, Parbrook, has been applied for by M, A and L Harrington and C Haskin Harrington and Haskin.
Proposed change of use from barn to single holiday let at The Bell House, Parbrook Lane, Parbrook, is wanted by Mr and Mrs Collins.

Retrospective application for the erection of a summer house at 7 Bove Town Gardens, Glastonbury, has been made by Jane Fry.
Proposed front, rear and side extention at 6 Wyrral Close, Glastonbury, is wanted by Mr and Mrs Collins.
