A proposal has been submitted to Somerset Council that could see Atlasta Farm in Westhay transformed into an eco-friendly spa and wellness retreat.

The application seeks a temporary five-year permit to operate the retreat at the site on Shapwick Road.

The vision for the new wellness centre is to convert the existing bungalow into a serene retreat offering a range of treatments using natural, refillable products. The focus is on holistic healing and the project aims to provide a peaceful, nurturing environment for both local residents and tourists.

The spa plans to operate from 10 am to 8 pm, ensuring all lights are turned off after hours to prevent light pollution.

If given the go ahead by planners, the retreat will partner with Avalon Marshes Café to provide food. Signage will be made from natural materials, placed discreetly at the entrance and on the building, without any lighting to maintain the area's character. The retreat will cater to up to six clients at a time, with a team of three full-time staff. With facilities to accommodate wheelchairs and parking for up to ten cars.

The applicant has requested a five-year trial period for the spa, allowing the council to assess its impact and providing an option to revert to residential use if necessary.

Somerset Council is currently reviewing the application.
