Millfield School in Street is celebrating a fantastic haul of medals from the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, with its athletes bringing home seven Olympic medals and one Paralympic medal.

If the school had been a country, it would have placed an impressive 17th in the Olympic medal table.

The standout performances included gold medals in swimming and rowing. Team GB's James Guy, Matthew Richards, and Kieran Bird powered their way to victory in the men's 4x200m freestyle swimming relay, while Rory Gibbs helped the men's eight rowing team secure gold. Matthew Richards didn't stop there, adding a silver in the men's 200m freestyle, and Olympic debutant Annie Campbell-Orde claimed bronze in the women's eight rowing.

Millfield's Helen Glover, a rowing veteran, added another silver to her decorated career in the women's fours rowing event.

On the Paralympic stage, Millfield's Daphne Schrager made headlines by becoming Team GB's first medallist at the 2024 Games, securing silver in the Women's C1 3000m Individual Pursuit cycling event.

Millfield's international representation extended beyond Team GB, with Max McCusker (Ireland), Mia Phiri (Zambia), and Emma Harvey (Bermuda) competing in swimming, while Erica Hawley (Bermuda) took part in the triathlon. Millfield Performance coach Ryan Livingstone also played a key role, joining Team GB's coaching staff for the swimming events in Paris.

In addition, Millfield was well represented in the Paralympics, with swimmer Suzanna Hext and fencing coach Glen Golding selected to compete and coach for Great Britain.

This latest success adds to Millfield's proud Olympic legacy, which stretches back to 1956. The school has produced 82 Olympians, collectively winning 27 medals to date, including 11 golds, eight silvers, and eight bronzes.

As the athletes return home, Millfield is already setting its sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with hopes of continuing its incredible sporting legacy. For now, the Street-based school and local community are relishing the achievements of their athletes on the world stage.
