Schools in Wells and Glastonbury have recorded matching GCSE results, with just over half of pupils passing both English and Maths at grade 5 or above.

Government figures released this week show St Dunstan's School and The Blue School each hit a 50.6% pass rate in the key subjects — the top performance among mainstream schools in the local area.

Both schools also posted 18% of pupils achieving a strong pass across all Ebacc subjects, and received an average exam score of B/C.

Crispin School Academy in Street came next with 38.8% of students meeting the English and Maths benchmark, and 16.9% achieving the Ebacc standard. Its average grade was also B/C.

In Shepton Mallet, Whitstone School saw 35.1% of pupils reach the grade 5 mark in English and Maths, with just 6.3% making the Ebacc 5+ cut.

The Mendip School, which caters for pupils with special educational needs, had the lowest results locally: 18.2% for English and Maths, 0% Ebacc 5+, and a D–G average result.

The figures cover the 2024/25 academic year and come just days before secondary school application deadlines.
