Lions roar into new year with Street and Glastonbury club welcoming new president ahead of 50th birthday bash

There's a new Lion at the helm.
The Glastonbury and Street Lions Club has officially welcomed its new president, with Peter Cole taking over the chain of office from outgoing president Derek Green at a handover ceremony held at Ashcott Village Hall.
The handover marks the start of a new Lions year, beginning each 1 July — though for the club, the work never really stops.
Derek Green, who has led the club for the past two years, was thanked for his hands-on approach and dedication to local fundraising, community support, and projects across Street and Glastonbury.
But this year is no ordinary one. The club is preparing to celebrate 50 years of service — and Peter Cole is a fitting choice to lead the Lions through their golden anniversary. He's one of just two founder members still active in the club, alongside fellow charter member David Wall, of Glastonbury.
The group will mark the milestone with a special celebration at The Loft in Street on Saturday 25 April 2026. Locals are urged to save the date and keep an eye out for further details.
The Lions Club continues to support causes across the local area — from community events and health initiatives to youth groups and emergency aid — with volunteers regularly out in force raising funds and lending a hand where it's needed most.
With a founder back in the hot seat and a big birthday around the corner, the Glastonbury and Street Lions are showing no signs of slowing down.
