King William pub fire doused as Glastonbury's Market Place springs to life
The fire that erupted in the kitchen of the King William pub, bringing Glastonbury's Market Place to a standstill, has been successfully extinguished.
Emergency services left the scene at around 4:20pm, allowing the Market Place to reopen and signalling the end of the incident
The emergency services confirmed that the fire, which started in the pub's kitchen just after 11am was extinguished and that all fire crews left the scene around 4:20pm.
This allowed for the reopening of the Market Place to the public.
Initial reports to Fire Control led to the deployment of four pumps and an aerial appliance.
But by 11.33am the situation had escalated, requiring seven pumping appliances, one command unit, and one incident support unit.
The equipment used by the fire crews included four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet, one 45ml covering jet, one hose reel attack jet, positive pressure ventilation, one 135 ladder, one triple extension ladder, and two thermal imaging cameras.
By 1:04pm but fire was out, and crews were were cutting away at walls and cooling hotspots before damping down until around 4pm.
The owner of the King William pub, who was away on holiday at the time of the incident, posted on Facebook to inform the public that everyone, including family pets, was safe and unharmed.
